What about Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Germany … etc. corruption, no free speech, long ruling governments (Germany, Sweden, Netherlands). Please next time choose a west EU member to mock around. … aaaannnddd … unsubscribing from this biased channel

Resistance against erdogan and his regime is alive and well in Turkey and next elections are gonna be his and his party’s downfall. New age is coming to Turkey. In every single polls ones in line with erdogan and one in line with the opposition show that his power is waning faster and faster every month.

I don’t see any improvement currently in my country. The government is more interested in keeping itself in power.

Europe is becoming more authoritarian? Wow, imagine my shock at having heard such new, and recently learned about, news.

Europe has long been intolerably authoritarian with little respect for human rights. And this isn't just turkey and Hungary. It's France, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, etc. Disgusting politics by disgusting despots upheld by misguided (like Stockholm syndrome), and/or ignorant, and/or malevolent voting blocks. But, do you Europe. I don't live there. Freedom is about letting others live as they please, so please, do you. Just keep that utter nonsense over there. Thanks.

Fukuyama's idea was always preposterous. The idea that neo-liberalism is somehow the peak of human civilization is as short sided as a fuedal lord honestly thinking fuedalism was the peak.

After watching a few TDLR videos I can't help think that it is a pro EU and pro globalist government organisation. I recently watched a video of theirs titled, how the EU won the vaccine race over the UK. I feel it was pathetic and childish of TDLR to even imply there was a race. There is nothing to be ashamed about having a sense of national pride. Perhaps people in Hungary and Turkey are simply fed up with EU's and globalist's over involement with national politics. In the UK we have a national, leftist broadcasting corporation (the BBC) which is fully funded by tax payers money. People here have been imprisoned for not paying the BBC tax. Make a video about that TDLR.

Bulgaria also meets all the criteria. The media tries to look fair but it's a joke. On the elections the main parties decided to disrespect their voters and not turn up to debates cause were gonna get eaten alive by the opposition. Interesting most of these parties now in parliament dont have any differences on the most important topics. We be put in the Eurozone without referendum too. Not like we got asked whether we want EU or Nato. We got in and then collecting the bad fruits from both now.

Countries that have never had a strong history of democratic government becoming less democratic is not that surprising.

Let's see if the elections next year can turn this around in Hungary, though i don't have high hopes in the opposition either really. They are so fragmented, at the moment seemingly the only goal holding them together is to get rid of the incumbent. But other than that it will be a free for all i'm sure even if they manage to win.

Poland hits all three of these criteria.

Lmao populism is not antidemocratic and Orban was democratically elected by the Hungarian people. The idea that Western liberal democracies are going to be adopted around the world is absurd as well.

Good video!
Bulgaria has seen democratic backsliding in recent years.
Few examples of that have come to the spotlight both last year and this year.
We're going through a political crisis where the largest parties aren't able to form a coalition because of what the single, largest party, GERB did in the last 12 years.
The opposition however, cannot work together because of the unreformed shades of communism by way of having an anti-constitutional party like BSP still having an influence in some regions and not to mention DPS who is supported by ALDE.
DPS are a pro-Turkish anti-constitutional party that abuses funds of the EU on large energetic schemes for cca 30 years and no one has successfully both oposed them and stopped their fund abuse.
To this day, since 1989 there hasn't been a high level government official that has been sentenced due to their abuse of law…

So ur saying any election where an incumbent bias, any non-woke law, and an appointed court exists is an authoritarian state? So gerrymandering + abortion laws + SCOTUS = Us is authoritarian

Nice to now the whole world is authoritarian now…..

No need to look to Hungary or Turkey when thinking about this question, right here in the UK we’ve a near one party state for the best part of a century.

I’m Turkish. Everything in this video about Turkey is 100% true and it’s not even the whole story. We are basically one step away from Orwell’s 1984 here.

I can name several democratic deficits: Hungary, Turkey, Poland, Venezuela, the Philippines, India, Russia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Brazil, Georgia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Kenya, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Mozambique, Benin and it seems to be extending to nearly every country come to think of it.

By that definition Western European countries aren't that democratic, either, like Austria for example (look at Jan Böhmermann's video "Sebastian Kurz- Der Penatenkanzler und seine türkise Familie") or the misuse of power of the Spanish monarchs. Would probably be better examples than Turkey, which is not even in the EU and between Europe and the Middle East, and Hungary, which hasn't even been democratic for that long.

The point about appointing judges not necessarily being a sign of undemocraticness and using USA as an example, is bollocks and bullshit and you should know better; because USA is not a democracy either. Its a corporate plutocracy.

"Using bogus opinion polls and claiming victory early on election day," "discouraging opposition voters from turning out" – Where have we seen that in the last year?

If government funded media that pushes politics is a requirement then there are many more countries that should be added to this list, like Germany.
